2011 Queens and Master Tournament
Report
Once again we had an exciting
tournament. We had some first time
entries in both the Queens and the Masters.
We welcome them to this event. As
Tournament Manager, I listened to the complaints, the compliments and the
suggestions and will being all of them to the attention of the committee so the
problems can be addressed. I thank you
all for your voice. I believe that
having the entry forms available at the NCS USBC Championship Tournament helped
and also the posting of the entry form on the Web Site. Not mailing the entry forms to the centers
may have been a mistake but it saved over $130 in supplies and postage.
Now, on to the results: There were 23
Queen’s entries that were cut
to 11 after the first five games.
Courtney Stith lead the way with a 1150 followed respectfully by Heather
Moore, Annette Maynor, Leslie Rapach, Amanda Stone, Hilary Aycock,
Selena
Barone, Susan Replogle, Kathryn Whisnant, Kelly Belcher & Kimberly
Miles. After another grueling three games, the
following advanced to the step ladder finals.
Courtney Stith, Hilary Aycock, Amanda Stone, Heather Moore, & Leslie
Rapach. Selena Barone was the first Non
Qualifier and was presented a Trophy Clock from Lillian Haynes by
Tournament
Manager, Darlene Hatcher. In the first
match Moore bowled Rapach and winning (224 to 214) to take on Stone.
Moore lost the match (194-193). Stone advanced to take on Aycock losing
(181-217). Aycock came out the victor in
that match to advance to the final game against Stith. Aycock gave it
her all but Stith prevailed
winning the Queens Championship (225-191).
Courtney Stith will receive a paid entry into the 2012 USBC National
Queens Tournament in Reno as well as a free entry into NCS USBC 2012
Queen’s
event. She was also presented with a
bouquet of roses, a crown and a basket to celebrate. The top ten
qualifiers all received cash
winnings totaling $1910.
I appreciate the girls that came out
to help with the tournament. Without
them it would not have ran as smoothly as it did. A BIG THANK YOU to Bonnie Daniels for
entering the scores and getting them out quickly for me and Tom McBride for
getting the prize checks done so quickly so the winners
could take their check with them. Also, to Pris Hamilton who found the beautiful
purple roses and ran scores, Kathy & Pat from Greensboro who ran the score
for us and our Hosting Center, Gate City
Lanes Manager, Cheryl Dillard for a great tournament.
I would like to extend a special
thank you to Lillian Haynes for sponsoring this tournament for the 14th
year. She is a remarkable lady and is
greatly appreciated by all the Queens entrants.
She also recently celebrated her 80th birthday, so we all
wish her a Very Happy Birthday and may she celebrate many more. We all love you Lillian.
The Masters Tournament was equally
exciting and tripled their number of participation. After the first five games the field was cut
to eight with Mark Tarkington leading the way followed by Mike Bidnick, Leonard
Freeman, Rob Fuller, Bill Vannoy, Jim Lord, Cory Gordon and Mike Moore. When the next three games finished there was
a small lead change in the top five.
Tarkington lead again followed by Bidnick, Fuller, Freeman, &
Vannoy. Then the step ladder began. Vannoy took on Freeman and edged him out
(207-181) to advance. He then had to
bowl his team mate Fuller from Jacksonville and beat him (205-173). He advanced to bowl Bidnick and met his doom,
losing (202-222). Bidnick and Tarkington
bowled the final match with Tarkington hanging on to his number one spot by
winning 221-204). Tarkington will
receive the entry fee into the USBC National Masters event as well as a paid
entry into next year’s NCS USBCA Masters.
He also received a beautiful eagle carrying the American flag to
remember 9-11. The top eight qualifiers
shared a prize fund of $1253.
I appreciate all of you who entered
these tournaments and hope that the interest grows so that we can continue
them. Again, I enjoyed serving as your
Tournament Manager.
